Director of Business Development

As Director of Business Development, Kevin Sutherland’s goal is to help Hardypond be part of community development projects propelling southern Maine forward.  With a master’s degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School, Kevin has worked in municipal government roles including Chief of Staff for the city of Ithaca, New York; and as City Administrator for Saco, Maine.  After seeing Hardypond’s willingness to take on challenging rehabilitation projects such as Portland’s Clark on Pleasant, and seeing their vision while working with them during his tenure as Saco’s City Administrator on the Notre Dame des Lourdres Church apartments, Kevin found a progressive and forward-thinking partner to continue his community development work in the private sector.

It’s no surprise that Kevin’s favorite part of the job is meeting people and learning what they love about their communities.  At Hardypond, Kevin is building relationships with businesses and officials and assisting in finding future projects. With his public sector experience, he is familiar with zoning ordinances and the players on local planning boards, and also has a keen sense of how to look at historic buildings with a vision for what their best use could be over the next hundred years.

In his free time, Kevin enjoys all the outdoor experiences Maine has to offer, from hiking to being on the ocean.  If he’s not outside, Kevin is probably working on renovating his 1812 Federal-style brick home in Saco.
